Description:

The successful candidate will work closely with a team of wealth management professionals and/or other Wetherby team members to provide excellent service to clients and prospective clients with respect to Estate Planning.  The candidate should have proven estate planning skills and knowledge and be familiar with complex planning techniques.

The functions and responsibilities of this role may involve:

  • Working with our Wealth Management teams to help high net worth clients with estate planning issues
  • Meeting with current and potential clients to evaluate, discuss and recommend basic and complex estate planning strategies
  • Reviewing client’s current estate planning documents and preparing a flowchart or other summary documentation to communicate current plan in a clear and concise format
  • Engaging in a discovery dialogue with clients to ensure their current plan is consistent with their intent, and if not, to recommend changes
  • Strategizing ways to achieve client’s philanthropic and intergenerational wealth transfer goals
  • Assisting clients with the implementation of estate plan         
  • Helping Wetherby team in assisting surviving clients with their financial affairs after the death of a family member
  • Supporting Business Development efforts
  • Building and maintaining deep relationships with outside estate planning practitioners to ensure we have a strong referral network for current and prospective clients who are seeking new legal counsel
  • Lead and/or participate in other firm wide projects related to various wealth planning topics
  • Coaching and training both new and existing team members on trust and estate planning concepts
  • Preparing white papers on Estate/Financial Planning topics

Qualifications:  The ideal candidate will have a J.D. and 3-5 years of experience in estate planning. A CPA and/or LL.M. is a plus. This person should have experience working with clients whose assets are in excess of $10 million.  Extensive knowledge in Charitable Remainder Trusts, Charitable Lead Trusts, Family Limited Partnerships, Grantor Retained Annuity Trusts, Irrevocable Life Insurance Trusts, Intra-Family Loans, and Qualified Personal Residence Trusts is desired.  This person should also have excellent time management, organization, communication and interpersonal skills, and be able to take immediate ownership of their work.  A proactive approach to problem solving and the ability to multitask are also important.
